Heartwarming tale of a man consoled by a shelter puppy during his mother’s passing and their miraculous reunion 7 years later via Pittsburgh community, says: ‘I think we were destined to spend time with each other during the worst week of my life.’

We don't often think about how dogs can help us in our most trying times of need, but time again they've proven their competence in doing so. And this story tells the tale of a dog who helped a hooman so deeply that seven years later the hooman had to seek out the pupper to recognize the impact he had on his life.


Not every shelter dog needs to be rescued to have their life improved. Just as not every hooman has a home and life that is befitting of a dog joining it. And in the case of this story that is exactly the way things shaked out. A man visiting from out of town, who suddenly lost his mother was grief stricken and felt that spending some time with a doggo would be the thing that could help him heal, if only a little. With the help of a local shelter he was paired with a pupper and given as much time as he and the pupper needed to heal.

Over the course of multiple meetings, several hours in length, they bonded deeply and gave one and other the love and attention they both needed at that time. But when all was said and done the man could not cross borders with this pup and had to return him to the shelter. In the process showing that this doggo was a truly precious soul and allowing this puppy to be shown what true love is. Seven years later, when this story starts, the man had healed enough to try and reach out to find out about the fate of the puppy that saved him. This is their story.

  • Wow, this is honestly the point of the story that most caused us shock when reading for the first time. On a couple of counts. First being that this man was so intune with his own needs and wants that he could so concretely say that the thing that would help him feel better is a dog. Then the fact that he was so in need of this support that he went and did his own research on the subject. Not forgetting of course the hospital’s support in all this. Heck even their awareness of other medical facilities that did have canine cuddlers on hand to help people. It is truly a wholesome and heartwarming approach to support.

  • Honestly, we are floored. This is just amazing. What a strong willed man, and a kind hearted one at that. He knew when he stepped through those shelter doors that they were aware of his pain and likely knew a pupper who had been feeling a similar way. Similarly devoid of hope and attention and love. Similarly in need of as much of it as possible as fast as possible. And in those four precious hours they spent together they must have both been so deeply filled with the love they were missing.
